Here’s what’s happening in city government — from policy changes to upcoming elections, stay informed on the decisions shaping life in St. Paul.

St. Paul Expands Pedicab Hours

  1. St. Paul Expands Pedicab Hours - The City Council unanimously approved an ordinance allowing pedicabs to operate during peak commuting hours, expanding zero-emission transit options and boosting downtown mobility and vibrancy. (Ambit)

  2. Council President Rebecca Noecker praises the early success of the Commercial Corridor Organization Assistance Program (CCOAP), which is quickly delivering flexible funding to strengthen local businesses and neighborhood retail corridors across the city. (Read her full note here)

  3. New Watchdog Report Criticizes St. Paul’s TIF Practices - A fiscal watchdog group recently released a report finding that St. Paul has “overused” tax-increment financing (TIF) and placed an “undue burden” on the city’s finances by relying too heavily on the mechanism. (Pioneer Press)

  4. Downtown Action Series Meeting Kickoff - Council President Rebecca Noecker and neighbors gathered at Union Depot on August 21 for the launch of the Downtown Action Series—a new initiative to shape Saint Paul’s Downtown Investment Strategy and building a vibrant, inclusive future together.   5. St. Paul City Services Remain Offline - St. Paul is still restoring systems after the July 25 cyberattack, with some services offline and 43 gigabytes of reportedly non-critical city data leaked after the city refused to pay ransom. (My Villager)

  6. Ramsey County awarded $15.9 million in grants to preserve and expand affordable housing, funding 17 projects (including 8 in St. Paul neighborhoods) that will stabilize hundreds of units, reduce rents, and ensure long-term affordability. (Ambit)

  7. Celebrate Pedro Park’s Opening on September 4th - Downtown St. Paul’s expanded Pedro Park will transform a formerly vacant site into a nearly one-acre green space featuring a lawn, play area, pavilion, gardens, dog run, café seating, and more—bringing new vibrancy and recreation to the heart of the city. ++ St. Paul voters will decide in November on a proposed 10-year, $35 million annual school levy. Facing a $51 million deficit, the board unanimously approved putting the referendum on the ballot, which would raise about $35 million per year if passed. Learn more here.
